The One-Time Setup (About 5 Minutes)

Hermes uses Spotify’s official Web API with PKCE OAuth. That sounds technical, but here’s what it means for you: you log in once, and Hermes handles the rest. Tokens refresh automatically. You only re-auth every six months or so.

Run this and follow the prompts:

Scroll to 🎵 Spotify, press space to toggle it on, then press s to save. Hermes immediately drops you into the OAuth flow. If you don’t have a Spotify app yet, it opens the developer dashboard in your browser, tells you exactly what to paste, and asks for your Client ID. Once you approve, you’re done—toolset enabled AND authenticated in one pass.

Prefer Step-by-Step? No Problem

First, enable the toolset:

Toggle Spotify on, save, and when the wizard opens, press Ctrl+C to dismiss it. The tools stay on; only auth is deferred.

Then, run the login wizard separately:

Hermes will ask for your Client ID if it’s not already saved. After you paste it, the browser opens for Spotify login. Approve, and you’re authenticated.

• Free Spotify account? You get search, playlists, saved tracks, and listening history.
• Premium account? You also get playback control—play, pause, skip, seek, volume, queue, and transfer.
• Active device required: For playback tools, Spotify must be open on at least one device (phone, desktop, web, speaker). If not, you’ll see a 403 Forbidden error. Just open Spotify anywhere and retry.

The 7 Tools Appear Only After You Enable Them

Hermes keeps things lean. The Spotify tools are off by default, so users who don’t want them don’t ship extra tool schemas on every API call. Once you toggle the toolset on, all 7 tools appear in your agent’s toolbox.
