Hermes v2026.6.5 Update: Hermes Agent v0.16.0 (2026.6.5) — The Surface Release

What’s New: Hermes Desktop App

Think of Hermes before as a powerful engine under the hood of a race car — but you had to be a mechanic to drive it. Now, we’ve built the whole car with a steering wheel and air conditioning.

Hermes Desktop is a native app for macOS, Linux, and Windows. You install it like any other program, it updates itself, and you get a proper chat window with streaming responses. You can drag-and-drop files into the conversation, paste images from your clipboard, search your session history, and use a Cmd+K command palette for quick actions. The model picker lives right in the status bar — fuzzy-searchable, so you can switch AI models in two keystrokes.

The best part? You don’t have to run Hermes locally. Point the app at a remote Hermes gateway (your home server, a cloud box, a teammate’s machine) and sign in with OAuth or username/password. No more copying session tokens or fiddling with insecure flags. It just works.

Improvements: Web Dashboard & Quick Setup

The web dashboard also grew up. You now get a full browser-based admin panel: manage your MCP catalog, messaging channels, credentials, webhooks, and memory — all from a GUI. Login is pluggable with OIDC or classic username/password.

For first-time users, there’s a Quick Setup via Nous Portal path. It’s like the “express checkout” lane at a grocery store: install, click, and you’re talking to your agent in seconds.

We also trimmed the default skill set to what you actually need (less clutter, faster startup), added NVIDIA/skills to the trusted Skills Hub, and — a long-requested feature — /undo lets you take back the last N turns of conversation. Made a mistake? Just undo it.

Fixes & Security

This release closes 2 P0 and 62 P1 issues, plus a security round: patched CVE-2026-48710 (Starlette pin), hardened SSRF off-loop protections, and stripped credentials from subprocess calls. If you’re running Hermes in production, this is a must-update.

If you’ve been telling friends “it’s a CLI agent” and watching their eyes glaze over — now you can just send them an installer. The Surface Release is about meeting you where you already work: on your desktop, in your browser, with your existing login. The power is the same; the friction is gone.
